Valentine’s Day is here. Whether you’re kicking and screaming or welcoming it with open arms, February 14th has come. If you’re looking to celebrate the big day with someone special, e.g your cat, a friend or your significant other, here are a few suggestions for where to shop locally.
WPA Bakery
Located in the heart of Church hill, this cozy neighborhood coffee shop and bakery is offering Valentine’s treat boxes for pick up February 12-14. For $8.50 your ribbon-wrapped box includes: (2) brownies, (2) cookie sandwiches and (2) cupcakes. Snag one of these care packages and give it to a friend or, better yet, bring it home and treat yo’ self to a night in.
Chocolates by Kelly
Within the past five years, Chocolates by Kelly has opened two retail locations and moved into a brand new production center- you could say she’s built quite the following. For Valentine’s Day, she is offering heart-shaped boxes of 9, 12 or 18 pieces of assorted chocolates. About 2/3 of her current menu is vegan. Favorites include: Blueberry Lemonade, Maple Cream, Coconut Almond, Blanchard’s Coffee truffle and Cherry cordial. Build your own box and give it to someone important- like your boss. Hey, you could use a raise, right?
For the Love of Chocolate
For the Love of Chocolate has been an iconic Carytown landmark for generations. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see a giant store of candy and chocolates from all over the world? Whether it’s peanut butter cups, white chocolate bars, chewy caramel candy bars or chocolate-covered pretzels, For the Love of Chocolate has built up quite a collection of vegan sweets. Apart from various heart-shaped chocolates, they do also offer a separate case of vegan truffles. Sourced from Nirvana Chocolates and Premium Chocolatiers, you can build your own box for a reasonable price. Flavors include: Pineapple Calypso, Raspberry Romance, Mint Cream and Hazelnut Praline. If you’re looking to do a more affordable Valentine’s Day, buying in a bulk is actually a blessing in this case.
Raw Enlightenment
If you haven’t heard yet, Raw Enlightenment is Richmond’s first entirely raw vegan business. Just a couple months old, they specialize in food that is meant to heal and nourish the body. Their sweets are made from organic, locally-sourced ingredients and they’re free from processed sugars. Meaning, you can eat even more chocolates without crashing from a sugar high, amiright?! To place an order for V-Day, you can stop by Mott Gallery or order online for delivery (you can get a free song too, if you want). Specials include: Strawberries & Cream hearts and White Chocolate roses.
